what a bluetooth headset *should* be : Motorola HX550 Universal Bluetooth Headset, Black
I've been searching around for a great bluetooth headset for years (literally), and while I found a few good ones, the majority of them were lacking in some way or other. This particular headset is really just...awesome.

The form factor is small with the boom closed, and it's very light. It ships with an on-ear hook, an in-ear hook, and two differently sized in-ear no hook options. I'm using the smaller of the two in-ear no hook pieces, and it is easily the most comfortable headset I've ever worn. The only problem is that I forget it's there, and I end up walking around all day with a headset in.

My headset showed up fully charged (which was nice), and when I opened the boom, a voice guided me through pairing it with my iPhone (!). I'm used to hunting through the manual to find the right combination of keypresses to get the the headset into pairing mode, but this headset anticipates that and immediately gets to work. Pairing the headset was the completely painless and worked perfectly.

The battery has lasted quite some time. Each time you flip open the boom, a voice lets you know the headset is connected, and tells you the level of the battery. You charge the battery with a micro USB slot on the end of the headset. I don't know how long it would take to charge, mostly because I haven't had to charge it yet.

The sound is crystal-clear, and most people I talk to with this don't even realize I'm on a bluetooth headset. The "answer" and "ignore" voice commands are a cool feature, and work reliably. The headset turns off when you close the boom - this is a great battery-saving feature, and I really like not having to press a button and hold it for 3 seconds until I get some obscure series of blue or red flashes to indicate the headset is off. If the boom is closed, it's off.

The only minor complaint I have is that the mute functionality is a little tough to use with double-volume rocker (you have to press both up and down switches to mute the call) - it would have been nicer to have a dedicated button for this.

One feature I don't personally have a use for, but just shows consideration by the designers is that you can pair with more than one phone, and answer calls from both if they're on. Just something worth noting.

Also, the package is fully recyclable, which is a nice add. If you're looking for a new bluetooth headset, I can't recommend this one enough. I'd give it 6 stars, if I could.

2/22/12 UPDATE:
So it turns out the headset isn't waterproof. I accidentally washed it, and it's DOA. However, this headset STILL rocks, so I'm buying another one from Amazon.

I've had this model a few days, having waited months after reading rave reviews from preview electronic shows. It was worth the wait. I love a wide range of music, and am picky about sound quality. This speaker system is absolutely remarkable. I've listened to James Taylor, Luciano Pavarotti, Mozart's Requiem, Earth Wind and Fire, REM, among others and all of these sound wonderful, with crisp highs, resonant base notes, and a warmth in the mid-range that I've not ever heard from any portable player, including CD players, much less from compressed digital formats. It sounds better than my Bose Wave Radio/CD player, which I keep in my office. My son, a musician, walked downstairs and just looked at the small player in astonishment, thinking I had been playing our main sound system (built in speakers throughout the house). I love this little speaker system so much, that I've already ordered a second one. It is smaller than I expected, which is a plus. You could easily slip it into a suitcase. The design is handsome, but I agree that the little stand doesn't snap into place tightly. This hasn't been a problem, however, and I've not had the stand collapse. I strongly recommend this player to anyone who has been longing for excellent sound reproduction from a portable model.

UPDATE: After I wrote this I realized that the cover door, which flips back to make the stand, does snap securely if you just push it hard enough.

One of my smartest purchases! : Philips PD7016/37 7-Inch Portable LCD Dual DVD Player
I ordered this because we travel to SC, Disney, and GA every summer from NJ - 2500 miles overall - with our 7-year-old and our 2-year-old. We had a single screen DVD player that broke on last year's trip and I needed to replace it before we leave this year. I searched and read reviews about many different products and decided on this one. I have tested these DVD players on two 1.5 hour trips so far and I am very pleased thus far! The first trip I was alone with both kids and didn't hear a peep from them for the first 45 minutes. My husband had them for the second trip and he experienced the same as I did. The DVD players are super easy to set up. To watch the same movie is as simple as connecting the two screens with a single cord and switching one device to "AV IN". My 7-year-old was able to make this switch 45 minutes into the trip when the 2-year-old decided he wanted to watch the same movie she was watching. Additonally, I was able to reach behind my headrest, open my son's player, take out the old movie and put a new movie in while at a stop sign. I did have to have my daughter press the PLAY button, however, as it is the ONLY button on the device that I cannot reach while in the driver's seat. Both kids have a set of headphones that they use, so I can listen to the car radio or CD while they watch. One nice feature is that I can bring the players into our camper and plug them into an outlet so that the kids can watch whatever movie they want while my husband watches ESPN on the regular TV! I am extremely pleased with this purchase so far and am excited to see how it eases this year's trip! If my opinion on these players changes after our trip, I will post an update....wish us luck!!
